Five Ways to Make Aerobic Exercise

Aerobic exercise is a great way to lose weight, improve your mental state, and is excellent for your heart as well. But it can get very boring. Sitting on an exercise machine or walking or running on a tread mill gets boring very fast for many of us. Here are a few ways to make aerobic exercise fun, less boring, and easier.

1) Watch TV. I'm not a big TV watcher, but watching is a great way to pass the time. For example I've been watching rock documentaries at the gym while on the treadmill lately.

2) Read. You can't always read, for example if running or biking, but I did a fair amount of reading last winter while on an exercise bike.

3) Join a class. Many people greatly enjoy aerobics classes and wouldn't consider doing it any other way. Also if you've signed up for a class you are less likely to skip it.

4) Do it outside. Especially in summer, the idea of indoor aerobics is foreign to me. I bike, hike, run, swim, and chase my kids and dog around outside. This is never boring.

5) Listen to something. I occasionally listen to music, but more often listen to educational material. Podcasts and more have a wealth of information worth checking out, and mp3 players are cheap these days.

Walking on a treadmill is boring unless you add something else. There are plenty of something elses and no reason why aerobic exercise ever need be boring! Try the suggestions above and your aerobics time will soar, and hopefully your fitness will improve while your weight goes down.
