The Begining of Cold Season - November

Although the winter season starts at the beginning of December, November is already starting to expose cold weather. This is also the time of the most common illness of the winter season - Cold viral disease.

Although Cold is the most rampant illness in the world, it is not a serious disease and can occur anywhere and anytime not just in the winter season. Cold may also be a symptom of an underlying body conditions such as allergies, nasal disorders and respiratory tract infections.

Cold is caused by various viruses ranging from over 200 types that can affect humans. The normal duration of a Cold usually lasts about 10 days. Some cases that lasts more than that number of days must be put into immediate medical attention.

Causes of Colds
The primary cause of Colds are viruses like rhinovirus, coronavirus, adenovirus and respiratory syncytial virus. These viruses lives in the nasal passages which causes the development of Cold. Some of the viruses can be transmitted through air but majority are acquired through hand to hand contact with an affected person. These viruses can enter the body through the eyes, mouth and nose.

* Public places
* Any kinds of door knob
* Telephones / mobile phones
* Money
* Shopping malls
* School
* Pen
* Computer keyboard and mouse

People who are smoking are at high risk of having Cold virus by three folds compared to non-smokers. Also, smokers suffer severe types of Colds symptoms that those people who are not smoking cigarettes.

Cold Symptoms

* Cough
* Sore throat
* Headache
* Nasal congestion
* Sneezing
* Runny nose

However, severe Cold symptoms like chilling, excessive sweating, muscle aches, vomiting and fever associated with Cold can be a sign of an underlying illness such as flu, pneumonia and many other serious diseases. If these occurs, consult your doctor immediately.

Mild and regular Colds symptoms can be manage through self care treatment via drug medications that can be bought at a drugstore. The following can help reduce the effects of a Cold viral infection.

* Drink plenty of water. Fluids can help reduce the effects of Cold symptoms.
* Have enough sleep. A seven hour sleep daily can help your immune system strong which helps fights many viruses and bacterias inside the body.
* Menthol inhalers can help ease nasal congestion which regulates breathing.
* Consume 2 kiwi fruit every 4 hours. Kiwi has the best vitamin C content, three times more than oranges.
* Avoid blowing your nose too much to expel mucus from the nose. This can lead to nasal bleeding.
* Stay at home and rest.

To ensure that you are well protected from different viruses, you have to ensure that you have a solid immune system that can protect you from this viruses. Make exercise your regular habit because it can help strengthen your body as well as a healthy diet. Avoid crowded places as much as possible especially that winter season is fast approaching. Remember, Cold can become a serious problem only if you know nothing about it. Be healthy and be informed for better health!
